Our Living Room - SUYL

We built our home in 2009, soon after we were engaged. The plans were drawn from our chicken scratch sketches on notebook paper. Eight long and exhausting months later after doing roughly ¼ of the manual labor ourselves we got to walk through the front door and call our house, “home.”

It isn’t a large home, it’s small and cozy and it sits in the center of our family farm land surrounded by wheat fields (or soybeans, depending on the season). We love it, we’re proud of it, it fits our needs, and in roughly 27 more years it will be all ours! Ha!

Our living room and our ‘eat in’ kitchen are technically one huge combined room that is separated by a large center island. I hope I took the photos at the right angles to allow you to see how it is laid out.

I am not Martha Stewart and I don’t have the slightest idea about what is in style, so our décor is just one of those thrown together things. Dave actually picked out our couches and his recliner. I chose our tables. Our coffee table was so large that it blocked the view of the TV so we turned it into a entry way table by adding a large mirror over the top of it. The drawers provide lots of good storage (more than a traditional entry or buffet table) and I love that! I don’t like window treatments/curtains/valances/whatever.the.hell.you.call.them. so you won’t see many of those ;) I’m just really simple. Everything else is just my little nick-naks and photos. I did try to move around the room in a counter-clockwise motion so that hopefully the layout would make more sense. And after doing the photos for this post, I am convinced I need a photography class!  Enjoy looking around and come on back now! Happy Friday!
PS: Prepare for picture overload!

  11. Your home is beautiful. I especially love the coffee table as an entry way table.

I clicked over from Kelly's Korner (mainly due to your blog name -- once upon a time I thought I was going to be a Coach's wife too!) and knew I had to leave a comment when I read your "about me." I could've written pretty much every one of those "loves" right down to the Yankees!
