30 Days of Thanks

I saw on facebook that there are many posts going around about giving "30 Days of Thanks."
Basically, one post per day of something you are thankful for during the entire month of November.
I try to be thankful all year round and multiple times per day, but I like the idea of actually making the things you are thankful for verbal.
It also reminds you how important it is to give thanks for things you have and appreciate in your life.
Now....I have a pup on bed rest (yes...a 100lb Lab on bed rest. I'm sure this will result in another post about the pup in the future) with a torn ACL that will be having some major surgery within the next week and a half, so I'm not going to have time to blog every single day about what I am thankful for.

I am posting daily on FB, since I can do that easily from my phone and I usually keep up with family and friends daily there anyways.
However, I am going to try to split up my 30 days of thanks into two blog posts with 15 days in each one.
I think maybe next year we may do a small box with cards within my family and then read them all and possibly share them at the end of the month. Its just an extra way to make sure we are all doing our part to thank God and those who are important in our lives for all that they do for us and how they make us feel.

I also found a  website about this trend.

We did it......

We did it...we had "the talk." I still can't believe it, but its true.
We haven't had this discussion since we were engaged back in 2008! Gasp!
A few days after we celebrated our first wedding anniversary it just sort of came up in a conversation and we discussed a lot about it.

The very first time we talked about children was shortly after we were engaged, before we started diving into wedding planning. I guess every couple does this through out their lives together, but ever since the very first conversation about kids, it hasn't come back up.
Initially we knew that we were both still too young (in our eyes) to be parents and that it wasn't something we saw happening in our lives for many years to come, if ever.
We discussed never having children and what life would be like and then we discussed having children and what our life would be like.

Truth is...you just really don't know. We never will. Until an event happens in your life that changes it (for better or worse) then you really honestly can't say 100% for sure how the outcome will be.
It wasn't ever a spoken topic in our relationship. We never talked about it when we were doing things; like building our house or painting it. We never said thing like, "we shouldn't lay out the rooms like that because it thats the nursery one day then it will be too far away from the master bedroom" or "we shouldn't buy such a big desk for the office in case we have to move it and turn this room into a nursery."  I guess it was just one of those things in life that we planned to "wing it" if and when the time came.

I AM NOT PREGNANT. For reals. I promise. I don't plan to be for at least several more years. However, I'm pretty sure we've taken the word "baby" off the NO list and moved it over to the MAYBE list.

One thing that came up in our discussion was failure. Failure, a word we both hate. If there is one thing Hubs and I have in common its that word. We hate, hate, hate that word! I have always strived to do my best at whatever task was at hand, whether it be a new recipe, big project at work, or a sport. I've always feared hearing that word, or most importantly that phrase, "You failed." Its harsh. Hubs feels 100% the same way. He doesn't like to lose (that's the baseball freak in him) but more importantly he doesn't like to fail. We're just made that way, I guess. Back to failure....one of the first things that came up was, "what if we fail at being parents?" Seriously, what if we totally suck at it and our child ends up being a high school drop out or a druggie? I know thats really crazy and trust me, it sounded worse when it came out of my mouth than it looks on the screen...but really, those things happen, ya know? I know parents of people I went to school with that overdosed or quit school and started stripping. Don't we all?
What if my kid....is THAT kid? I mean, you can fail at a lot of things in life. A math test, I can handle. Wouldn't be happy about it, but I could get through the F written in big red ink on my test. Failing as a parent....not as easy to get over as a bad grade.
How do you know that you wouldn't fail as a parent, if its something you've never done. Its not like we can try it out and return the kid if we aren't successful at parenting. Geez, its a baby, not a damn Playstation!

A thing that has probably been a large factor in altering this decision is my health. I'm a perfectly healthy person for the most part but it hasn't always been that way and throughout the years I have been through a lot with my female organs. Suffering from ovarian cancer at 16 and having a cantaloupe sized tumor, my right ovary, and right fallopian tube removed during a 5 hour surgery. I've been diagnosed with non-specific ovarian failure when my left ovary failed to ovulate after the surgery. I've had numerous cysts rupture on my left ovary, the only one I have that remains. I have been very lucky to have been treated by wonderful doctors and everything was caught very early on so no progression of the cancer ever occurred. I never had to do chemo or radiation because the surgeons were 100% positive they were able to remove everything with the emergency surgery. So I guess this is always in the backs of our minds because of my history and I'm sure that its something that we can't help but think of when we think about pregnancy.

But the fact still remains that we just have too much love for one another not to share it with someone else. We have Bronx, our lab and he will always be our first "baby" and Hubs probably thinks I treat Bronx more like a baby than a dog anyway. He makes us laugh, he makes us cry, he drives us nuts, he calms us down, and I really can't go back and remember what our life was like before we had Bronx.
I remember being alone in our house before Hubs moved in after we built it, before we were married. I remember coming home after work and not having anyone to talk to "in person" and being kind of sad and down in the dumps for the first month or two. I had an entire family at my old house who was home all the time and I never felt alone. Hubs must have sensed that I was feeling this way, even though I tried not to show it so he snuck behind my back and bought Bronx for me. I've never been given a sweeter gift than him (other than the Hubs, of course!).  It was love at first sight and I've been attached to the little hellian ever since!
Having him in our lives has brought us so much joy and we love him to the moon and back. We have had the best time watching him grow and change.
Bronx's 1st night in his new home. The night Hubs gave him to me.

Bronx's 1st Birthday
(yes we celebrated....I even made him a doggie cake. I told you he was spoiled!)

I can only hope and pray that if God wants a child to come into our lives that it be his will and that we let him guide us in making the right choices as parents.

Cheers!

Mom was right....again

I've found that over the years I keep doing things and then soon after saying, "Mom was right."
I don't have any problem admitting that I'm wrong....okay, maybe just a little problem!
As a teenager, and even as an adult I thought I knew it all and that I was capable of doing everything on my own. What can I say? I'm an independent gal. Always have been. Its only now, that I'm a married woman, building my own life for my own little family that I'm able to say; Yes, I'm independent but I'll always need my Mom's advice and I've learned that she's been there and she's right and she's only telling me these things because she has my best interest at heart.

So here's one more for ya, Mom......

Last night, I worked late. Got stuck in traffic on my already 1 hour 15 minute commute home. Got home late. Hubby had a track meet (he got weaseled into coaching cross country this year at school....he wasn't excited about it then, and needless to say....the excitement level is still the same, ha!) and got home late too. Dinner doesn't make itself and I was hungry. We had some little snack cakes just lying there on the kitchen counter, so while hubs was in the shower I ate one.....or two!
I didn't want to fix dinner, so hubs helped me out. When it was finished, I wasn't hungry :(
As I sat there, eyeing my half eaten dinner I couldn't help but hearing my Mother over and over in my head, "You can't eat dessert first, you'll spoil your dinner."
I admit it, its true. Dammit!!
Eating dessert first might seem like a good idea at the time and it sure tasted good but since I spoiled my dinner and couldn't finish it because of my dessert indulgence...guess who woke up with her tummy growling at midnight last night???? Yup, me!

Happy 1st Anniversary

They say that time flies when you are having fun....that statement couldn't hold any more truth than it does today!
One year ago (and a couple hours) I married my best friend and soul mate! This year has been wonderful and even though we have had our share of ups and downs through this year, I have had the time of my life starting our new life together!
We started our anniversary weekend out with dinner on Friday night at our favorite mexican place and shared the same dish we always have just for old times sake. Saturday we went to a local ranch and spent the afternoon (thats a whole other post in itself to come later) and then ended off the night with some dinner and drinks at a nice little sushi restaurant a few towns over.
Today has been a little more relaxed with a little breakfast date this morning and a movie this afternoon. We've just been relaxing, laughing, and carrying on about how surreal this past year has been. Neither of us can honestly believe that an entire year has already passed!
I could say so much about how wonderful our First Anniversary has been and it would probably turn into the longest post ever...so I'll just share a few of my favorite pictures from our special day :)

Photo Friday

I've been a little under the weather this week. Ive been moving locations with one of my offices at work. Working out of boxes without a working computer or phone on top of major allergies/sinus trouble has made for a very long week! I'm so glad to see the weekend come!

Here's my photo Friday - Some pictures to sum up what we've done this week.

Bronx has been super lazy this week. He has even "slept in" and waited until after we're ready for work to go outside! (I'm hoping this is a sign that he's starting to come out of that puppy stage. Ive been told that Labs are in that puppy stage for at least 2 years)

We had some awesome warm weather yesterday. It was still 86 degrees after 5pm! Bronx got one more good use out of his swimming pool before it was put up for the winter :(
He loves his pool, so he's none too happy about this! Good decision to take advantage yesterday because today we woke up to a high of 63!! Yikes!

Its so crazy, I sported a summer dress to work yesterday with sandals and with the 20+ degree change in temp I had to drag out the slacks and long sleeves today!

I had a nice cold beverage while Bronx (or "B" as we call him sometimes) was lounging in his pool!

Mr. Curious! Right before this shot he stuck his nose in my face & got my camera lens all wet! He LOVES to know whats going on, AT ALL TIMES!

And just to prove that he really thinks he's a human....here is the proof! Caught him in this chair watching the birds in the back yard earlier in the week!
Please excuse my half dead flowers behind him...I can kill a plant with skill, ask my Mother! :)

Bad attempt at a self portrait of Me and B....but we'll take what we can get.

And this is what a tired pup looks like...all the swimming and playing just wears him out.
We'll have to work on a winter hobby now that the pool has been retired for the season.

 Cheers!

Remembering 9/11

I can't believe that it has been 10 years ago.
I have so much to say about how I feel and how I felt that day but when I try to put it into words, it all jumbles up and makes no sense.
I guess my words, or lack there of, represent the senselessness we all felt that morning when thousands lost their lives and our country was kicked to the ground.
I saw many images on the net in regards to remembering 9/11/2001 and instead of continuing to try and put my own words together about my feelings I thought I would just display the ones that touched me. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words....

The Chase

"The Chase for 28" is on! 28 World Series Championships, that is! Y'all know I'm talking about my Yanks...who else?

I know that so many football fans are amped and ready to go for the upcoming season and I'm excited its that time of year too....but not because its time to break out the pig-skins. I'm excited for the most exciting part of baseball season...the post-season play offs!

Some may call it "sad" and others may call it "ridiculous" but we call it "Love" and that is all we have for this game and this team, pure love!
Hubs and I vacationed to NY when we were dating, just to watch the Yankees play.
Hubs proposed to me in NY at a Yankees game and had a "Congratulations" message displayed on the jumbo screen during the game.

We were even two clicks away from booking our honeymoon to NY. We backed out because we got married in October, and weren't sure there would be any play-off games for us to watch while we were there.

So we have some ties to NY (even though we probably would never go there if it weren't for the love of our team) and we feel its a part of us. So until "our" season is over, this family puts football on the back burner and cheer our team on all the way! Let's hear it for the Yankees & our chase to 28!! Whoo Hooo!

Cheers!
